Subject: The Best Explanation Of Electromagnetic Wave Propagation
Arthur Kennelly provides a very detailed, thorough and insightful explanation of electromagnetic wave propagation beginning in chapter III complete with many diagrams and analogies. This text was used to train US Military signalmen in the spark-era of wireless communications, and he approaches the arcane subject of electromagnetic wave propagation with the intent of providing a complete novice with a working comprehension of this most elusive subject. I am currently reading through my library of over three hundred volumes of pre-1920 wireless books, and Kennelly's description is about the best I've encountered so far. Although his style is a bit awkward, his treatment of this particular aspect of physics is excellent, because it instills in the reader/student an internal picture of the invisible electric and magnetic flux and forces and how each generates the other. Hertz, Fleming and Lodge provide a masterful scientific treatment, but don't even attempt to hammer home the vision of electromagnetic radiation Kennelly valiantly works to provide.
